Impact
Warehouse records onboarded
Cleaned and standardized records by end of 2024
Growth in managed sites
Increased from 2K to 5.5K total warehouse records
Data accuracy
Enhanced validation systems ensuring reliable building metadata
The Challenge
The Centralized Warehouse Metadata Platform operated with an outdated interface and operational deficiencies that hindered effective site management. Poor data visualization, inadequate time zone handling, unclear team structures, and manual processes created inefficiencies for Ops IT teams and FC software engineers—resulting in data inaccuracies and delayed operational decisions across Amazon's global building operations.
The Solution
After conducting comprehensive research including benchmark analysis, UX audit, stakeholder interviews, and content hierarchy assessment, we designed a new streamlined workflow solution with enhanced validation systems.
Site Content Creation
Streamlined workflows for creating and managing warehouse records with built-in validation
Content Owner Operations
Clear ownership models and team structures for managing building metadata
User View Access
Role-based access with intuitive data visualization for different user types
Reflection
Bridging design and engineering perspectives through systematic mapping uncovered critical requirements that wouldn't have surfaced through traditional discovery methods. Global platforms require careful attention to time zone handling and localization from the start.
